This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Take ownership of the end-to-end delivery for the Account Experience surface, ensuring the team maintains a high standard of quality, reliability, and pace without becoming a bottleneck.
• Guide, mentor, and develop the engineers on your team, focusing on career advancement, providing feedback, evaluating performance, and fostering an environment where top talent can excel.
• Maintain technical credibility by reviewing design choices, participating in architectural discussions, and assisting engineers in making informed decisions regarding scalability, latency, and data integrity, rather than managing from afar.
• Collaborate with Product to define a realistic roadmap, identify potential risks early on, and protect the team from over-committing while still ensuring rapid progress.
• Promote operational excellence across systems that handle substantial payment volumes, focusing on monitoring, incident response, and conducting thorough post-mortems that effectively address follow-up actions.
• Contribute to the evolution of Primer Companion as a premier merchant interface, balancing the development of new features with the existing platform you manage.
• Participate in hiring. As Primer advances through its Series C plan, building and refining a robust team is a fundamental part of the role, not merely an ancillary task.
• Proven experience in managing a team of software engineers, with genuine responsibility for their delivery, growth, and performance, rather than just coordination.
• Sufficient technical expertise to earn the respect of skilled engineers: capable of analyzing a system design, identifying incorrect trade-offs, and recognizing inconsistencies in provided information.
• A background in building and maintaining backend or platform systems at scale, where reliability and accuracy were critically important.
• Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy and minimal processes: adept at resolving ambiguity instead of waiting for it to be clarified.
• The discernment to determine when a change warrants the involvement of Staff Engineers or necessitates a design review, along with the credibility to uphold that standard.
• Nice to have:
• Familiarity with payments, fintech, or other intricate infrastructure domains, although depth of engineering leadership is prioritized over industry experience.
• Experience in developing product interfaces supported by AI, considering the future direction of Companion.
• Competitive share options
• Unlimited holiday, with a minimum of 25 days to be utilized
• Access to co-working spaces
• Opportunities for workations and company retreats
• Provision of top-notch equipment for your role
• £500 contribution towards your home office setup
• Generous budget for learning and development
• Private Medical Insurance
• A wide range of additional perks and benefits (*depending on location)
