This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead and expand a full stack engineering team: responsible for hiring, mentoring, managing performance, and facilitating career growth.
• Stay actively involved — contribute to architecture, design reviews, and coding; set the technical standard through your actions.
• Oversee the complete delivery of significant product and platform initiatives: encompassing planning, design, implementation, deployment, and performance in production.
• Influence architectural decisions that shape the platform's scalability to accommodate enterprise finance and engineering clients.
• Collaborate closely with Product Management to convert customer needs and business objectives into actionable engineering plans.
• Establish and uphold engineering best practices: focusing on code quality, testing standards, CI/CD, documentation, and incident response.
• Make well-informed trade-offs between immediate execution and long-term technical strategy, clearly communicating risks and options to stakeholders.
• Elevate the team through structured feedback, regular one-on-ones, and fostering a culture of high ownership and psychological safety.
• Over 7 years of software engineering experience, including significant time spent developing full stack web applications and data-intensive platforms.
• At least 2 years in an engineering management or technical lead role, demonstrating a history of delivering complex projects through a team.
• Strong technical expertise across the full stack: comfortable contributing to React/TypeScript frontends, Node.js or Go backend services, and BigQuery or large-scale data warehousing.
• Proven product sense — you make engineering choices considering customer value and business results, not just technical sophistication.
• Established capability to bring clarity in uncertain situations: you identify issues, align stakeholders, and proceed to execution without waiting for perfect information.
• Excellent communication skills across all levels — within the engineering team, among cross-functional peers, and with senior leadership.
• Experience in both rapidly growing startups and established engineering organizations is highly valued.
• Actively utilizes AI tools (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, Claude, LLM-assisted workflows) to enhance engineering efficiency — and encourages your team to do the same. Strong preference.
• Practical experience in creating AI-powered product features: LLM integration, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, or AI agent workflows is a strong advantage.
• Company-sponsored travel to connect with colleagues multiple times a year.
• We offer comprehensive health benefits, a 401(k) plan, and a work-from-home budget to help you establish your home office (not applicable for contract or short-term positions such as internships).
• Equity compensation allows all employees to share in Ternary's success (not applicable for contract or short-term positions such as internships).
• The team culture combines the excitement of a startup with the maturity expected in a larger organization.
