Software Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Take responsibility for the daily well-being of your teams.

• Assist engineers in cultivating effective daily habits, enhancing communication, and advancing their skills, including guiding them to evolve from merely writing code to effectively directing AI.

• Collaborate with product and design teams to swiftly transition from identifying "important customer problems" to delivering "working software," prioritizing rapid iteration over resolving every uncertainty upfront.

• Work alongside staff engineers on technical direction, code architecture, and systems thinking.

• Establish a high standard of excellence and lead by example, particularly in how you and your team leverage AI tools and reevaluate your workflows.

• Maintain a hands-on approach by conducting spikes, prototyping, and investigating ideas that your team hasn't had the opportunity to pursue, without engaging in critical-path tasks.

• Mentor engineers on integrating AI as a fundamental aspect of their development process: understanding when to trust AI outputs, when to discard them, and how to uphold code quality when automation is involved.

• Empower them with skills rather than completing tasks for them.

• Question your team's preconceptions about software development.

• Foster an environment where engineers consider the entire problem, not just the coding aspect: grasping customer needs, system dynamics, and the requirements for reliably running software in production.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience managing software engineers on teams that develop full stack web applications.

• Substantial and demonstrable use of AI development tools in your own projects, rather than solely encouraging your team to utilize them.

• Capability to work remotely from the Eastern, Central, or Mountain time zones.

• Eligibility to work in the United States.
