Software Engineering Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.

📋 Description

• Design and develop high-quality software, overseeing the transition of features from technical design to delivery.

• Generate technical design documentation for the team and assist in creating user documentation for end users.

• Diagnose and resolve software issues during both the development phase and in production environments.

• Collaborate with various teams and disseminate technical knowledge among fellow engineers.

• Enhance the quality, scalability, security, and reliability of software.

• Streamline the software development lifecycle and evolve protocols within agile engineering.

• Lead the design and implementation of high-quality security features.

• Identify opportunities for product integration that deliver enhanced value to customers.

• Take market needs, product adoption, and competition into account when making design decisions and monitoring related metrics.

• Review and test code to identify issues and enhance scalability, speed, and reliability.

• Address errors, monitor production systems, recognize risks, and escalate issues as necessary.

• Provide support for on-call escalations.

• Work with cross-functional teams to capture requirements, estimate timelines, track milestones, and ensure project delivery aligns with user needs.

• Share expertise through presentations, documentation, blogs, newsletters, and other communication channels.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience, or PhD with 1+ year of relevant experience.

• Proven experience in developing production software, including writing clean, functional code and unit tests.

• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve software issues in both development and production settings.

• Experience with code reviews, testing, and software engineering practices emphasizing scalability, reliability, and quality.

• Skilled in creating technical designs and leading software features from conception through to delivery.

• Background in leading software projects or features through implementation, testing, and delivery is preferred.

• Ideally, experience in building security products or developer-oriented security tooling.

• Knowledge of production monitoring, incident response, postmortems, and root cause analysis.

• Familiarity with secure software development practices and threat modeling.

• Ability to leverage AI/ML or generative AI to address security challenges.

• Familiarity with LLMs, AI agents, embeddings, or other machine-learning capabilities and their integration with production systems.

• Knowledge of vulnerability analysis, as well as vulnerability management tools and processes.

• Understanding of software engineering roadmaps and the integration of capabilities across products.

• Proven track record of collaboration with Product Management, Design, Security, and engineering teams.

• Ability to mentor engineers and impart technical knowledge effectively.
