Software Engineer – Systems Architecture

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the architecture, data management, and product layer of the software stack for a stealth product company.

• Collaborate closely with the General Manager and a compact engineering team to swiftly develop a new product.

• Partner with product enablement at the Valinor Hub to set up infrastructure and management systems.

• Design a comprehensive software architecture that integrates data flow, processing, and the end-user product.

• Define interfaces for sensor integration and API components.

• Make and document essential architectural decisions.

• Architect the processing division between edge and cloud while considering power and compute limitations.

• Establish time-series and object storage systems for sensor and telemetry data.

• Develop reliable ingestion pipelines to transfer data from systems to the backend.

• Design data transport systems that are bandwidth-constrained and compression-aware, including data versioning and observability features.

• Develop detection and classification capabilities across various sensor modalities, including acoustic, EO/IR, radar, and RF/AIS.

• Contribute to the detection of anomalies in patterns of life.

• Integrate multi-modal signals into cohesive detection and classification outputs.

• Create the product configuration interface and geospatial common operating picture visualization layer.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in contributing to the architecture and development of systems with significant architectural implications, such as edge/embedded software, sensor, or data pipelines.

• Experience in designing and managing time-series data systems and message-based ingestion pipelines, including MQTT, Kafka, or similar technologies.

• Experience in managing intermittent or unreliable connectivity.

• Full-stack experience with backend/data pipeline technologies such as Python or Go, as well as frontend technologies like React/TypeScript.

• Familiarity with constraints inherent in embedded/edge systems.

• Practical experience with at least one of the following: acoustic, EO/IR, or radar signal processing or detection.

• Ability to establish and maintain CI/CD and cloud infrastructure, preferably within AWS.

• Capacity to adapt quickly to changing specifications and take ownership of decisions.

• Eligibility to acquire and maintain a U.S. security clearance; an active clearance is preferred but not mandatory.

• Strongly preferred experience with TAK/ATAK/WinTAK/TAK Server or similar government C2/situational awareness system integration.

• Strongly preferred applied machine learning experience, particularly in anomaly detection or pattern-of-life modeling.

• Prior experience in defense or dual-use technology, along with familiarity with DoD software requirements, security protocols, data handling, and ATO/RMF processes, is strongly preferred.

• Strongly preferred experience in geospatial visualization using tools like Mapbox, Cesium, deck.gl, or similar.

• Prior involvement with autonomous systems, robotics, or maritime/subsea platforms is strongly preferred.

• Must be authorized to work in the United States and be able to answer questions regarding U.S. work authorization and sponsorship.
