Software Engineer, Sportsbook Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Develop, expand, and enhance the GraphQL APIs, gRPC endpoints, and SQL queries that drive the marketplace.

• Take ownership of complex technical challenges, creating proposals and presenting them to leadership and partner teams for input.

• Design, architect, and implement new features from start to finish in a collaborative agile/scrum setting.

• Detect bottlenecks and risks in production, and lead initiatives to enhance the platform's scalability.

• Participate in the Sportsbook Platform Support rotation, responsible for release management and deployment during your assigned period.

• Establish and refine monitoring and alerting in DataDog for the systems you manage.

• Guide and mentor engineers within the team and across teams that contribute to our codebase, through specifications, pairing, and code reviews.

• Additional duties as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in software engineering.

• A solid grounding in computer science, with robust skills in data structures, distributed systems, algorithms, and software design.

• Strong understanding of production systems at scale, with experience in identifying improvement opportunities in a production environment through load testing and tracing.

• Experience in investigating and resolving production performance regressions, including CPU hotspots and latency issues in high-throughput services.

• Familiarity with on-call rotations for a production service, including managing release cycles from start to finish.

• A passion for clean code architecture and software craftsmanship.

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with a history of creating technical specifications, runbooks, and cross-team design documents that withstand scrutiny.

• Experience with modern web frameworks and API development (Phoenix, Ruby on Rails, Fast API, Laravel, Node).

• Proficiency in designing and evolving GraphQL schemas for product surfaces utilized by multiple clients (iOS, Android, Web).

• Experience in building and integrating multi-client/white-label platforms, including geo-based routing and per-client configuration.

• Strong understanding of relational databases, including PostgreSQL and MySQL.

• Familiarity with Kubernetes and comfort operating services in a containerized setting.

• Proficient in terminal operations, with Git and GitHub or equivalent, and in your preferred editor.

• Experience with testing frameworks such as ExUnit, RSpec, Jest, pytest, or similar.

• Experience with background job processing (Oban, Exq, Sidekiq, Celery, Beanstalk).

• Experience with asynchronous event handling infrastructure (Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS/SNS, Google Cloud Pub/Sub).

• NICE TO HAVE: experience in building GraphQL APIs with Absinthe, hexagonal architecture, Domain Driven Development, contributing to open source software, experience in startups, and a passion for sports and/or esports.
