Software Engineer – Release Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and manage the CI/CD systems, release orchestration, and testing infrastructure that all Zapier engineers rely on.

• Establish and refine the optimal pathways for how code is built, tested, and deployed at Zapier.

• Take ownership of the complete delivery of intricate initiatives, from design documentation to rollout and impact assessment.

• Create internal tools and APIs that enhance the effectiveness of Zapier engineers and minimize the time from merge to production.

• Troubleshoot complex production issues across pipelines and release systems, engage in incident response, and drive systemic enhancements.

• Facilitate technical design discussions and produce clear documentation that shapes decisions across various teams.

• Mentor team engineers and elevate the technical standards through code reviews, design input, and knowledge sharing.

• Collaborate with the cloud/infra SRE team at the intersection of platform foundations and the delivery layer built upon it.

⛳️ Requirements

• You possess deep knowledge of CI/CD systems, testing strategies, and release orchestration — not merely as a user, but as someone who has built or significantly enhanced these systems.

• You have practical experience with platform tools like GitLab CI, Kubernetes, Docker, ArgoCD, Terraform, or similar. You don’t just utilize these tools — you construct and enhance the systems surrounding them.

• You tackle loosely defined issues and drive them to production, drafting design documents, defining success metrics, and ensuring rollout and measurement without external prompting.

• You approach problems with a systems mindset, designing solutions that consider downstream users, secondary effects, and long-term maintainability.

• You have robust backend or full-stack engineering fundamentals and have built and managed production APIs and services at scale (TypeScript, Node.js, Python, or equivalent).

• You are adept at making pragmatic technical decisions amidst uncertainty and can clearly articulate your rationale.

• You actively utilize AI tools in your engineering workflow and critically assess where they add value versus where careful validation of outputs is necessary.

• You collaborate efficiently across teams in an async-first environment, aligning stakeholders and communicating trade-offs without losing momentum.

• You elevate the standards around you through code reviews, design feedback, and contributions to team practices and standards.
