This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Collaborate closely with experienced engineers at Branch for a period of 4 to 6 months.
• Engage in brainstorming, designing, coding, debugging, and deploying features that cater to millions of customers.
• Develop functionalities for both existing and new product lines and platforms, including Credit, Payments, KYC, and Data Platforms.
• Integrate with third-party systems, such as payment gateways, identity providers, and messaging platforms.
• Safely navigate and evolve current architectures.
• Decompose ambiguous projects into detailed, estimable tasks.
• Work together with product, design, and other teams to shape the workflow.
• Test, monitor, document, and take accountability for the code that is shipped.
• Responsibly utilize AI tools to enhance engineering workflows while managing associated security risks.
• Some experience in building backend applications, beyond simple projects.
• Experience with applications that have real users or participation in an open-source project is advantageous.
• Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals, distributed systems, and data storage solutions.
• Familiarity with Unix variants and standard command-line utilities.
• Proficiency in at least one widely-used programming language such as Python, Ruby, Java, or Kotlin.
• Entrepreneurial spirit and experience in initiating or contributing to passionate projects.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
• Interest in working within a distributed company with colleagues from around the globe.
• Understanding of web fundamentals, data modeling, and distributed systems.
• Knowledge of modular and scalable design patterns.
• Awareness of security, performance, observability, and automated testing practices.
• Capability to navigate and assess unfamiliar codebases.
• Understanding of the complete software development lifecycle.
• Ability to break down ambiguous projects into detailed, estimable tasks.
• Fluency in AI, including the assessment of AI-generated code and the mitigation of risks such as prompt injection, data leakage, and secret management.
• Capacity to make rapid, high-quality decisions and work autonomously.
• Strong attention to detail, intellectual honesty, integrity, and ownership of completed work.
• Ability to communicate effectively in structured, asynchronous-friendly formats.
