This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Assume responsibility for designated voice AI features and components, overseeing them throughout the entire software development lifecycle.
• Participate in design discussions, conduct code reviews, and promote the adoption of best practices within the Voice AI team.
• Lead technical decisions regarding voice pipeline enhancements — including VAD tuning, turn-taking management, interruption handling, and latency control.
• Organize and prioritize tasks within an Agile framework, ensuring timely and high-quality project delivery.
• Collaborate with Product Managers and stakeholders to clarify requirements and outline technical efforts for conversational AI features.
• Track voice platform health metrics (call efficacy, ASR accuracy, per-segment latency) and prioritize enhancements based on quantitative data.
• Guide junior team members by sharing expertise and best practices in voice AI architecture, TypeScript, and real-time systems.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence through pair programming and design reviews.
• Document voice AI patterns, integration contracts, and operational runbooks for the team.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, QA, and clinical operations to gather requirements, validate conversational designs, and steer projects from conception to deployment.
• Work with other engineering teams to integrate voice agents with internal services via authenticated APIs.
• Partner with the analytics team to ensure accurate flow of voice metrics through the data pipeline for reporting and optimization.
• Enhance our multi-agent orchestration strategy — focusing on tool calling patterns, agent handoff logic, and state management across conversational turns.
• Promote high-quality standards and automated testing strategies for conversational AI systems, including voice-specific testing patterns (simulated calls, transcript validation, latency benchmarks).
• Identify and address voice-specific UX challenges: ASR errors related to medical terminology, silence detection adjustments, barge-in recovery, and end-to-end response latency.
• Minimum of 5 years of overall software development experience, with a focus on scalable backend services utilizing Node.js and TypeScript.
• At least 1 year of experience with voice AI, conversational AI, or real-time audio systems in a production environment.
• Practical experience with agentic LLM architectures — including tool calling, multi-agent orchestration, prompt engineering, and conversation state management.
• Familiarity with voice AI pipeline components such as STT (Deepgram, Azure Speech, OpenAI Whisper), TTS (ElevenLabs, OpenAI, Cartesia), and LLM APIs (OpenAI Realtime API, Anthropic Claude).
• Experience with telephony systems like Twilio (media streams, SIP, IVR) or similar WebSocket-based audio streaming platforms.
• Understanding of voice-specific challenges such as VAD configuration, turn-taking, interruption handling, latency budgets, and audio codec management (mulaw/PCM).
• Strong grasp of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), encompassing build, configuration, release, and deployment.
• Knowledge of microservice architecture and best practices for distributed systems.
• Proficient in AWS services (ECS Fargate, Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, Kafka/MSK, API Gateway).
• Experience with event-driven architecture and message processing (e.g., Apache Kafka, SQS).
• Strong relational database expertise (MySQL) and familiarity with NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, Redis).
• Proven teamwork abilities and a collaborative mindset.
• Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
• Experience with RAG architectures (AWS Bedrock, vector stores, embedding models) is advantageous.
• Health insurance
• 401(k) benefits
• Paid time off
• Flexible working hours
• Pregnancy and baby bonding leave
• Free testing for employees and their families
• Commuter benefits
• Employee referral program
