This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take charge of feature development: Own features from initial technical design to final delivery, breaking down complex projects into manageable, deliverable components.
• Produce high-quality code: Write Ruby code that is idiomatic, efficient, thoroughly tested, and elevates the overall quality of the codebase.
• Contribute to architectural decisions: Engage in team-level discussions regarding data modeling, service boundaries, API design, and background processing strategies.
• Enhance quality proactively: Spot opportunities to enhance code quality, performance, reliability, and developer experience, then take action.
• Mentor junior engineers: Offer technical support to Software Engineers I and II through comprehensive code reviews, pairing sessions, and design feedback.
• Collaborate across teams: Work alongside Product, Design, and QA to validate technical choices and ensure coherence between product objectives and implementation.
• Join the on-call rotation: Gradually take on more responsibility for incident response, contributing to root cause analysis and systemic enhancements.
• Foster team knowledge: Document technical decisions, data models, and service patterns to enhance the team's collective understanding.
• 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience, including significant time spent developing Ruby on Rails applications.
• Proven track record of delivering intricate features within a software team to achieve business objectives.
• Experience in translating ambiguous requirements into concrete technical plans.
• Familiarity with large-scale, high-throughput distributed systems — understanding the challenges of building software for millions of real-time users.
• Advanced skills in Ruby on Rails — a deep understanding of the framework and the ability to write clean, idiomatic, production-quality code.
• Strong PostgreSQL expertise — including schema design, query optimization, migrations, and comprehension of performance characteristics at scale.
• Experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs within Rails.
• Solid testing practices, using RSpec or Minitest, along with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing strategies.
• Familiarity with background job processing frameworks (e.g., Sidekiq or similar).
• Knowledge of containerization (Docker) and orchestration tools (Kubernetes).
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
• Self-directed — capable of transforming ambiguous problems into well-defined solutions.
• Comfortable providing and receiving direct technical feedback.
• Strong written communication skills, especially vital in a fully remote setting.
• Ability to balance in-depth technical work with collaborative design and planning efforts.
