Software Engineer III

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Design and evaluate improvements in both well-defined and uncertain areas.

• Produce clean, efficient code in accordance with sprint commitments and coding standards.

• Spearhead the design, execution, and delivery of complex software projects involving multiple engineers or related teams.

• Take ownership of architectural decisions for a team area, service boundary, or shared capability.

• Enhance long-term system health.

• Decompose large initiatives into manageable increments that can be developed concurrently and later assembled into a unified launch.

• Lead design reviews and conduct insightful code reviews.

• Elevate engineering standards related to security, quality, resilience, and maintainability.

• Identify bottlenecks, architectural shortcomings, and systemic issues, and drive resolutions across teams.

• Mentor engineers and assist with recruitment.

• Aid managers in evaluating technical growth and readiness.

• Establish team patterns for responsible AI-assisted development, covering coding, testing, documentation, and incident response controls.

• Shape technical decisions beyond the immediate team through collaboration, design leadership, and engineering best practices.

• Perform additional tasks as assigned.

• Adhere to all policies and standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, CIS, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 5 years of professional software engineering experience with a proven record of leading complex or unclear technical projects.

• Experience in owning architecture or a significant technical area for a team, product, or platform capability.

• Proficient in design, coding, debugging, testing, and production operations within modern software systems.

• Capability to make informed trade-offs regarding customer impact, delivery speed, maintainability, security, and operational risk.

• Ability to influence across teams and levels without direct authority.

• Extensive knowledge of JAVA, SQL, XML, HTML, CSS, JavaScript/JQuery, Object-Oriented Programming, and Relational Databases (Oracle and PostgreSQL).

• Preferred: experience with distributed systems, platform services, data-intensive systems, integrations, or shared technical capabilities.

• Preferred: experience in establishing standards for AI-assisted development workflows, tooling assessment, or engineering productivity mechanisms.

• Preferred: experience in benefits administration, HR technology, regulated SaaS, or other complex B2B platforms.

• Helpful experience with AWS, AWS Lambda, user interface development, mobile development using HTML5 or Swift, Bootstrap, JQuery, React Native, billing and payroll, data import/export, SSO, or large-scale EDI.

• Internal applicants must be in good standing in their current roles and should not be on a performance improvement plan.

• Applicants must have held their current positions for at least one year before applying for a new opportunity; Member Services & Client Services employees must have served in their roles for a minimum of two complete Annual Enrollments.
