Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Develop the product encompassing backend, frontend, and AI pipeline.

• Deliver features from backend development to the user interface seamlessly.

• Engage with technologies such as React, Node/Express, Postgres, and AWS.

• Gradually take on more autonomy and responsibility.

• Collaborate closely with the CTO and grant team to create solutions that address real user challenges.

• Design software with a focus on the end user.

• Assist in establishing the platform’s AI pipeline from the very first week.

• Work with prompt engineering, context management, and AI evaluations.

• Utilize AI-centric development tools like Claude Code or Cursor.

• Identify and resolve bugs in the production environment.

• Employ Sentry, CloudWatch, and Postgres in your workflow.

• Analyze actual production issues and comprehend their root causes.

• Receive hands-on technical guidance from the CTO.

• Use code reviews as a learning opportunity and progressively provide feedback to peers.

• Advance towards independent feature ownership.

• Enhance the transition from project initiation to a completed, submitted grant application through dependable features, automation, and product enhancements.

⛳️ Requirements

• 1–3 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, or recent university graduation with notable technical projects.

• Strong foundation in TypeScript and/or JavaScript.

• Eagerness to work across the full stack, including React, Node/Express, Postgres, and AWS.

• Genuine interest in learning how production software is developed and maintained.

• High self-drive and the capability to tackle problems proactively rather than awaiting instructions.

• Comfortable with receiving feedback and utilizing it to enhance technical abilities.

• AI-native approach to software development, familiar with tools like Claude Code or Cursor.

• User-centric mindset, prioritizing software that serves real users effectively.

• Strong curiosity, ownership, and readiness to assume greater responsibilities.

• English version of CV is mandatory; resumes in other languages will not be evaluated.

• Nice to have: initial experience with AI tools or LLM APIs, including academic or personal projects.

• Nice to have: proficiency in German at B1 level or above.

• Nice to have: personal projects, open-source contributions, or other independently developed work.
