This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Engage thoroughly with exploration geologists and data scientists, consistently expanding knowledge about mineral exploration and customizing technology development to meet the needs of exploration scientists.
• Create data pipelines and tools to derive advanced human and machine insights from exploration data.
• Frequently lead a small team of software engineers to ensure successful project delivery.
• Develop a deep understanding of KoBold’s Data Systems and their influence on exploration efforts.
• Oversee projects from inception through to design, implementation, testing, and ongoing collaboration with exploration teams.
• Address design and coding feedback while also providing constructive feedback to team members.
• Manage the team’s services operationally and support scientific colleagues with tooling needs.
• Work collaboratively with data scientists, geologists, and software engineers to tackle complex challenges that facilitate the discovery of lithium, copper, nickel, and cobalt.
• Minimum of 4 years of software engineering experience, preferably in developing production cloud data systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python.
• Capability to produce production-quality code that is accurate, readable, thoroughly tested, scalable, and extensible.
• Expertise in large-scale system design.
• Proven track record of taking ownership from problem definition to iterative project delivery with measurable impact.
• Intellectual curiosity and a strong desire to understand mineral exploration, especially geology.
• Willingness to collaborate directly with geologists in the field.
• Ability to articulate technical issues to non-developer domain experts and work together to find solutions.
• Excellent communication and cross-company collaboration abilities.
• Enthusiasm for joining a rapidly growing early-stage company and comfort with a dynamic and evolving set of responsibilities.
• Interest in determining the technical product that most effectively meets business goals.
• Nice to have: experience with React.
• Nice to have: experience with geospatial data and map-based applications.
• Nice to have: familiarity with Docker, AWS ECS, Kubernetes, or similar container orchestration platforms.
• Nice to have: formal education or work experience in natural sciences.
• Flexible remote work arrangement.
