This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Italy.
• Develop features, enhance reliability, and contribute to the evolution of the Polyant open-source, self-hosted AI-agent runtime.
• Collaborate across the administration interface, runtime, database, and release pipeline.
• Assume responsibility for specific product areas in partnership with the team.
• Design and implement features from start to finish, including data models, APIs, user interfaces, testing, and documentation.
• Make informed technical choices while considering user value, implementation complexity, reliability, and maintenance expenses.
• Expand agent functionalities such as tool execution, context management, retrieval, and memory.
• Safeguard the multi-tenant platform through authorization, data segregation, input validation, and meticulous review.
• Create regression tests and agent evaluations utilizing traces, latency, and cost metrics.
• Ensure reliable releases via CI/CD, secure database migrations, and deployment protocols.
• Examine production issues and glean insights from failures.
• Intentionally utilize AI coding agents and validate the generated code.
• Suggest product enhancements and communicate experiments, decisions, and discoveries with the team.
• Conduct research and experimentation on agent behavior, retrieval, memory, and evaluation, transforming promising findings into sustainable product functionalities.
• Proven experience in delivering and maintaining production software, with clear explanations of decisions and outcomes.
• Proficient in TypeScript and Node.js.
• Hands-on experience with React and the capability to work across both backend and frontend.
• Familiarity with relational databases, API design, authentication, and authorization.
• Strong software design, debugging, and refactoring abilities.
• Experience in automated testing and code review.
• Practical knowledge of LLM APIs and agent workflows, including tool invocation, structured output, context limitations, cost, and latency considerations.
• Evidence-based approach to reliability, testing uncertain behavior, and investigating failures.
• Practical experience with AI coding tools and a critical eye for reviewing generated outputs.
• Proficient in Git, CI/CD, and software deployment.
• Willingness to take ownership of software behavior post-release.
• Strong written communication skills.
• Fluent in professional Italian and competent in working English.
• Must be based in Italy.
• Additional beneficial experience: Next.js, NestJS, Drizzle ORM, PostgreSQL/pgvector, Docker, or AWS CDK.
• Additional useful experience in retrieval systems, embeddings, hybrid search, chunking, or reranking.
• Additional relevant experience with agent evaluation, tracing, context compaction, lifecycle hooks, guardrails, or MCP.
• Additional advantageous experience with multi-tenant or self-hosted products, contributions to open-source, or tools aimed at developers.
