This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Define the architecture and progression of scalable, modular, and secure software platforms for T&D configuration systems.
• Establish the technical strategy and supervise the design of cloud-native platforms utilizing contemporary frameworks (.NET, Java, Python, TypeScript).
• Facilitate the integration of IEC 61850 engineering workflows into user-friendly, automated tooling ecosystems.
• Ensure alignment across firmware, UI/UX, and power systems teams.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity, systems, and hardware architects to provide secure, compliant solutions.
• Promote the reuse of software components across various product lines.
• Oversee the development and management of configuration and commissioning tools throughout their lifecycle.
• Conduct architecture reviews and ensure adherence to industry standards.
• Partner with architects, systems engineers, and utility clients to deliver solutions centered around customer needs.
• Keep an eye on emerging technologies for applicability to the T&D field.
• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Extensive background in software engineering, including experience in a technical leadership or software architecture capacity.
• Proven history of designing and delivering software solutions for T&D systems, energy automation, or industrial control sectors.
• Expertise in utility standards and protocols such as IEC 61850, CIM, IEC 61968/70, and IEC 62351.
• Strong proficiency in modern technologies (.NET, Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript), UI frameworks, backend systems, and containerized/cloud deployments.
• Understanding of data modeling, API integration, network communications, and cybersecurity practices.
• Familiarity with configuration management systems, substation design tools, and integration with SCADA/DMS/EMS platforms is highly desirable.
• Exceptional leadership and communication abilities with the capacity to influence both technical and business teams.
• Experience in a matrixed global organization, managing distributed engineering teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, focused on delivering customer value and high-quality outcomes.
• Thought leadership demonstrated through publications, participation in standards, or speaking at conferences.
• Willingness to travel for important customer meetings, internal collaboration, or industry events.
