Software Architect, Python, AWS, AI

Posted Jul 19

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Guatemala.

📋 Description

• Serve as the architectural authority – oversee the deterministic/AI boundary design, multi-tenant data isolation model, and LLM security posture; establish baseline architectural decisions in the first week that set the team's constraints.

• Assume technical ownership from design to delivery – customize solutions to meet Alpine's specified requirements (FastAPI + PostgreSQL + AWS Bedrock + ECS Fargate) while preventing scope creep and managing technical debt.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements – engage with client leadership to convert business and compliance needs into architectural constraints (e.g., multi-tenant isolation, run-to-run consistency guarantees, audit trails).

• Evaluate and prepare for technology integration – analyze architectural trade-offs (e.g., reasons for preferring a single bounded AI step over two, advantages of RLS + FORCE ROW LEVEL SECURITY compared to application-layer filtering, justification for using Pydantic schema validation as the output gate).

• Oversee risk identification and mitigation – identify and address delivery risks (e.g., CISO golden-set availability, prompt-injection surface area, cross-tenant isolation flaws) with actionable mitigation strategies.

• Shape and communicate the vision – establish the long-term product roadmap (Tools 1–5), technical vision (the 5-section Source of Truth architecture, the 7-stage pipeline design), and development strategy (agentic-orchestration approach, vertical slices, consistently functional milestones).

• Contribute to code reviews and architectural documentation – assess critical pathways (Bedrock adapter, RLS policies, Stage 4 calibration logic); document architectural decision records (ADRs) that explain the rationale behind decisions, not just the decisions themselves.

• Lead and mentor the team – support the AI/LLM Lead and Backend engineers in AI reliability, security patterns, and multi-tenant design; escalate uncertainties upward instead of allowing them to affect individual engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).

• Over 5 years of experience as a Software Architect with practical expertise in:

• Python and asynchronous programming patterns (FastAPI, async/await).

• PostgreSQL and multi-tenant database architecture (RLS, row-level security, schema isolation).

• AWS cloud architecture (Fargate, RDS, IAM, Secrets Manager, Bedrock).

• LLM system design (prompt engineering, consistency guarantees, output validation, prompt injection defense).

• Security architecture (least-privilege access, encryption in transit, audit logging, cross-tenant isolation).

• Operational excellence in design methodologies – proficiency in architectural patterns (layered, event-driven, pipeline), UML/C4 models, and decision-record documentation.

• Experience in designing SaaS or highly scalable distributed applications on the cloud.

• Leadership in Agile teams – demonstrated ability to work in a sprint-based delivery environment, establish technical standards, and effectively communicate trade-offs to product and engineering stakeholders.

• High-level design skills – C4 models, architecture decision records (ADRs), and risk matrices.

• DevOps and CI/CD expertise – familiarity with Terraform, Docker, automated testing, migration guards, and security scanning.

• Proficient in English – capability to articulate architectural concepts to global teams, clients, and executive stakeholders.

• A natural leader with strong critical reasoning – comfort in making architectural decisions amid ambiguity and defending those decisions to stakeholders.
