Software Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead Fingerprint’s cross-functional architecture as the company’s inaugural Architect.

• Develop and sustain the comprehensive architecture overview, encompassing data flows, service boundaries, and ownership transitions.

• Recognize systemic scaling, reliability, and cost challenges across ingestion, identification, signals, and delivery pipelines.

• Initiate architectural modifications prior to risks evolving into incidents.

• Define the direction for API design and service patterns across REST, SDK, and MCP interfaces.

• Influence foundational initiatives such as cell architecture, multi-region readiness, rate limiting, and feature flag infrastructure.

• Act as the technical lead throughout the engineering organization without having direct reports.

• Set agendas, drive decisions to conclusion, maintain records of decisions, and ensure team adoption.

• Collaborate with Engineering leadership and Staff/Lead engineers to prioritize cross-functional tasks.

• Mentor Staff-level engineers on system design, technical documentation, and influence.

• Enhance RFCs and cross-team design evaluations.

• Establish standards for observability, quality, security-by-design, and the evolution/versioning of APIs.

• Review and approve critical designs.

• Convert business direction into multi-quarter technical strategy and sequence the related work.

• Advise Engineering leadership and executives regarding build/buy choices, platform investments, and technical risks.

• Spearhead AI adoption within engineering practices and design systems for AI-agent efficiency.

• Prototype, create reference implementations and documentation, and investigate production issues as necessary.

• Report directly to the VP of Engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering.

• More than 3 years functioning as an Architect within a 100+ Engineering organization.

• Proven experience owning architecture for a platform, beyond just a service.

• History of leading through influence and promoting the adoption of standards across an organization.

• Extensive expertise in distributed systems and high-throughput, low-latency backend architecture.

• Proficient in Go or a comparable systems programming language.

• Familiar with Kubernetes and AWS.

• Experienced in event-driven and data-intensive systems.

• Skilled in designing public APIs and SDKs at scale, including versioning, backward compatibility, and multi-surface consistency.

• Demonstrated capability to foresee and mitigate systemic risks.

• Exceptional written communication skills and documented decision-making.

• Regular use of AI coding and reasoning tools.

• Ability to architect codebases, documentation, service boundaries, and APIs for safe human and AI-agent utilization.

• Pragmatic mindset when balancing architecture with delivery demands.

• Experience transitioning into a newly dedicated role and gaining stakeholder trust.

• Must have authorization to work from the candidate's home location.

• Nice to have: experience with fraud detection, identity, device intelligence, adversarial domains, multi-region/cell-based architecture, MCP, LLM tool integrations, agent-facing API design, ClickHouse, Kafka, or similar high-volume data infrastructure.
