This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the social media strategy for USA TODAY and evaluate portfolio performance.
• Design audience journeys and spearhead innovative social media initiatives.
• Establish a unified brand identity and style for USA TODAY's journalism on social platforms.
• Formulate strategies that encompass the entire audience journey and anticipated user actions.
• Address and resolve social media challenges within the newsroom.
• Represent USA TODAY in key discussions with industry peers, influencers, and platform partners.
• Analyze performance, pinpoint growth opportunities, and lead content strategy experiments.
• Convert data points into actionable insights for content creation.
• Modify platform strategies in response to breaking news and significant events.
• Collaborate across departments to enhance social media revenue and boost consumer retention.
• Work alongside AI leaders to test and implement tools that improve workflow efficiency.
• Mentor journalists on best practices for social media engagement.
• Conduct training sessions for reporters, visual journalists, and editors.
• Balance editorial and business objectives while prioritizing audience and organizational goals.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of experience in digital journalism or newsroom leadership, including roles in a digital, print, or television news organization.
• Mandatory journalism experience.
• 3-5 years of experience in analytics, preferably in content analytics.
• Demonstrated passion and expertise in storytelling through social media.
• Proficient in using Reddit, Discord, WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, YouTube, Threads, and other social media platforms.
• Strong understanding of the digital media and creator landscape.
• Capacity to independently manage priorities and execute tasks amidst competing demands.
• Ability to lead peers and provide coaching to others.
• Strong business acumen and the ability to align editorial efforts with audience and organizational objectives.
• Experience utilizing AI and automation to enhance journalism, social media, or production workflows.
• Proficient with Google Analytics, Parse.ly, or similar analytics tools.
• Expertise in platform-specific data tools such as Meta, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, and X.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Familiarity with news products, journalism, media analytics, and ethical standards.
• Preferred experience with Hootsuite, True Anthem, or Echobox.
• Submission of a cover letter, a one- to two-page resume, and one or two examples of projects or strategies led is required.
• Remote work flexibility.
• Option to utilize a local newsroom as a base of operations if residing nearby.
