Short-Form Video Editor, Video Repurposing Virtual Assistant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Edit high-quality documentary footage into captivating short-form videos.

• Develop 30- to 90-second clips for platforms such as YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok.

• Transform long-form documentaries and other provided video assets into content suitable for social media.

• Produce vertical 9:16 videos by reframing, cropping, and repositioning subjects as needed.

• Recognize engaging scenes, moments, quotes, interactions, and visual narratives.

• Preserve the original story, meaning, tone, authenticity, and cultural context throughout the editing process.

• Generate various short-form assets from longer documentary projects when appropriate.

• Craft engaging openings and maintain pacing tailored for short-form audiences.

• Handle English subtitles, captions, transcripts, time-coded text, and subtitle positioning.

• Manage timelines effectively, including cutting, sequencing, basic color correction, audio enhancement, transitions, rendering/exporting, and organizing files.

• Review footage and creative direction provided through shared platforms like Dropbox.

• Submit edits for team feedback and integrate reasonable revisions.

• Export and deliver finalized videos in accordance with client specifications.

• Collaborate with the Indigenous Geographic production team and international creative partners.

• Adapt to changing priorities and varying content demands.

• Concentrate on video editing and content repurposing without engaging in independent research, original documentary development, or administrative tasks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven professional video editing experience.

• Strong skills in short-form video editing.

• Experience in creating vertical 9:16 videos.

• Background in repurposing long-form videos into short-form content.

• Solid understanding of pacing and narrative structure.

• Ability to pinpoint compelling moments within longer footage.

• Keen attention to detail.

• Capability to follow creative direction effectively.

• Ability to work autonomously.

• Proficient English communication skills.

• Ability to receive and act on feedback.

• Dependable remote work setup.

• Availability for a minimum of 10 hours per week.

• Strong proficiency in DaVinci Resolve is highly preferred.

• Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro is highly preferred.

• Background in documentary editing is highly preferred.

• Experience with social media video editing is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok editing is highly preferred.

• Experience with professional RAW footage is highly preferred.

• Basic skills in color correction and audio enhancement are highly preferred.

• Experience in subtitle/caption editing is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted video editing and AI transcription/translation is highly preferred.

• Previous experience working with international teams and culturally sensitive documentary content is highly preferred.

• Portfolio or work samples showcasing short-form video editing, vertical 9:16 content, documentary or storytelling projects, long-form-to-short-form repurposing, social media content, and caption/subtitle work.

• Respect for Indigenous communities, cultures, traditions, languages, and significant cultural subjects.

• Willingness to learn about cultural contexts.

• Comfort in collaborating with individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and time zones.
