Senior VMware/Openshift Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.

📋 Description

• Set up, configure, and oversee OpenShift clusters in on-premises environments.

• Track cluster performance and resolve issues to guarantee optimal functionality.

• Administer user access and permissions within the OpenShift ecosystem.

• Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines to streamline application deployment.

• Collaborate with development teams to enhance applications operating on OpenShift.

• Generate and update documentation related to OpenShift configurations and processes.

• Keep abreast of the latest OpenShift and Kubernetes features and best practices.

• Work with security teams to enforce optimal security practices for containerized applications.

• Facilitate conversions from VMware to OpenShift.

• Capable of managing a VMware environment.

⛳️ Requirements

• Practical experience with OpenShift Virtualization (KubeVirt), including the management of VM workloads on Kubernetes (beyond just container orchestration).

• Extensive experience with VMware (vSphere/ESXi) in hybrid settings.

• Documented experience in production with VM migration tools (e.g., MTV or virt-v2v).

• Experience in deploying and operating OpenShift Virtualization on bare metal systems.

• Use of GitOps (Argo CD or Flux) in production for managing cluster and VM manifests.

• Familiarity with observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Splunk.

• Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines that support infrastructure/platform delivery.

• Strong grasp of networking and storage within containerized and virtualized environments.

• Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and cross-team collaboration skills.

• Preferred Red Hat certification: EX316 (OpenShift Virtualization) or EX280 (OpenShift Administration).

• Preferred VMware certification: VCP-DCV or VCAP.

• Experience in VMware to OpenShift Virtualization (KubeVirt) migration or modernization projects (preferred).

• Preferred in-depth understanding of KubeVirt architecture and VM lifecycle on Kubernetes.
