This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.
• Identify, solicit, underwrite, and sell new and renewal Specialty accounts.
• Drive profitable growth in alignment with industry segments, appetite, and mix objectives.
• Utilize advanced expertise in underwriting, sales, analysis, risk selection, exposure assessment, hazard evaluation, coverage, and loss analysis.
• Analyze pricing components, rating methodologies, exposure, financial data, and competitive intelligence.
• Implement CAT guidelines and aggregation strategies.
• Clarify coverage, exposures, and controls to agents.
• Manage a designated portfolio while achieving targets for premium, profitability, rate, retention, industry mix, line of business, new business, and overall portfolio goals.
• Develop profitable relationships with agencies, internal stakeholders, and external resources.
• Create and execute portfolio business plans and special initiatives.
• Review metrics, identify trends, and uncover business opportunities.
• Lead profit-improvement initiatives with key agents.
• Collaborate with Specialty departments to explore cross-sell opportunities.
• Recognize enhanced sales opportunities across various lines of business and customer segments.
• Manage producer relationships, negotiations, stewardship activities, and account retention efforts.
• Implement territory business plans and sustain a pipeline for profitable growth.
• Train agents and impart product knowledge.
• Present products to agents and customers, uncover their needs, position solutions, address objections, and successfully close deals.
• Travel frequently within the assigned territory for agency partnerships, business development, meetings, and industry events.
• Report to the Leader of the Financial Institutions practice.
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
• 5–7 years of underwriting experience in Financial Institutions, particularly with asset managers, including registered investment advisers (RIAs), private fund managers, and other investment management firms.
• 5–7+ years’ experience in driving agency relationships that result in profitable new and renewal business.
• High proficiency in core underwriting competencies across Lines of Business; may specialize or certify in 1–2 specialty areas.
• Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems while managing and prioritizing multiple concurrent projects.
• Capacity to collaborate on complex risks, pricing, trends, industry segments, coverages, and product knowledge.
• Ability to quickly adapt to change, exercise influence, and advocate for necessary modifications.
• Informal leadership skills, knowledge sharing, and mentoring of less experienced or newly hired underwriters.
• Strong communication and influencing skills with both internal and external business partners.
• Sound judgment, negotiation skills, and business decision-making abilities within authority.
• Ability to foster collaboration and work effectively with diverse teams.
• Remote or hybrid work flexibility.
