This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the assessment and underwriting of both new and renewal business in accordance with the Company’s underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.

• Create and implement sophisticated risk assessment models to inform coverage, pricing, and terms decisions.

• Cultivate strategic relationships with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients.

• Obtain and evaluate motor vehicle reports, loss history reports, external inspections, and other relevant reports and screenings.

• Record underwriting decisions and ensure adherence to state and federal insurance regulations.

• Analyze complex policy renewals and modifications, pinpointing opportunities for policy enhancement and risk mitigation.

• Convey underwriting strategies and decisions to internal teams, agents, and brokers.

• Keep track of and disseminate insights on industry trends, regulatory updates, and market conditions.

• Sustain business relationships with internal and external customers and colleagues to generate new business and maintain profitable operations.

• Assess and refine underwriting practices while aiding in strategic adjustments to enhance effectiveness and outcomes.

• Potentially supervise and mentor staff, participating in talent selection, development, and performance management processes.

• Execute other assigned duties as required.

• Operate as a field role in Virginia.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Risk Management and Insurance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Typically, a minimum of 13 years of experience in Underwriting or a related domain.

• Completion of or ongoing progress towards a professional designation is preferred, such as Associate in Underwriting (AU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Program in General Insurance (INS), or Associate of Risk Management (ARM), or a marketing designation.

• Conducts work with minimal supervision.

• Operates at the highest authority limits for the most intricate assignments.

• Retains expert knowledge of company policies as well as industry laws and regulations.

• Exhibits exceptional analytical, risk assessment, and problem-solving abilities.

• Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Demonstrates advanced negotiation and decision-making capabilities.

• Familiarity with marketing strategies and tools is advantageous.

• Recognized as the company expert in the field.

• May act as the highest point of escalation for decisions regarding risk and coverage.

• Role requires occasional travel.
