This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Evaluate applications for excess insurance and assess whether to approve or deny coverage based on established underwriting criteria.
• Decide on the level of coverage to be provided and appropriate pricing based on presented exposures and individual risk factors.
• Analyze high-risk scenarios and determine the value of policies to ensure the secure and profitable distribution of risks.
• Familiarize yourself with various commercial insurance applications and relevant industry terminology.
• Follow underwriting guidelines and implement pricing strategies to meet profitability objectives.
• Approve or reject insurance applications within specified limits, issuing coverage and preparing referral submissions for risks that exceed individual authority.
• Review and assess risk characteristics on insurance applications, renewals, and change requests.
• Ensure that all underwriting activities adhere to industry and government regulations.
• Maintain documentation of underwriting files, including risk analysis and justification for pricing in line with established underwriting standards.
• Provide clients with recommendations regarding insurance applications to mitigate exposure to excessive risk.
• Apply underwriting guidelines, rules, standards, and levels of authority to accept, reject, or manage risk for applications, determining appropriate premiums, limits, and coverages.
• Build and nurture relationships with assigned producers to achieve production targets.
• Collaborate effectively with the underwriting team to finalize insurance applications in a timely manner.
• Utilize various databases to collect and verify additional data for submissions and employ specialized software to assess risks, ensuring precise policy pricing.
• Address customer needs by providing tailored guidance and assistance regarding their insurance requirements.
• Process accounts from approved quotes through to policy issuance with accuracy and efficiency.
• Suggest ideas for program development and enhancements to existing processes.
• Contribute to the growth of the Underwriting team by sharing knowledge and market insights, collaborating, and fostering mentoring relationships.
• A bachelor's degree is required.
• A minimum of 5 years of underwriting or relevant insurance experience is necessary.
• Experience in underwriting risks for the following sectors: construction, hospitality, habitational, real estate, and manufacturing.
• Strongly preferred experience in underwriting excess risk.
• CPCU, CIC, CRIS, Property & Casualty Brokers License, etc., are advantageous.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to quickly adapt to industry-specific software.
• Capability to work collaboratively with team members and across departments.
