This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as the technical lead or study manager for transmission planning projects, overseeing scope, schedule, quality, and client relationships.
• Execute steady-state load flow and contingency analyses for utility transmission planning and interconnection assessments.
• Carry out transient stability and dynamic simulation studies, encompassing both conventional generation and inverter-based resources.
• Direct impact studies for generation and large load interconnections spanning regional transmission areas.
• Formulate and evaluate long-term transmission expansion strategies.
• Assist with compliance efforts related to FERC Order 1920 proactive transmission planning and Order 2023 interconnection reforms.
• Conduct studies and evaluations based on NERC reliability standards.
• Write and perform quality assurance for technical study reports intended for regulatory submissions, client deliverables, and interconnection applications.
• Create Python-based automation tools to enhance study execution efficiency, model management, and output quality.
• Guide junior and mid-level engineers through mentorship.
• Engage in business development activities, including proposal drafting, scope creation, client presentations, and opportunity identification.
• Keep abreast of changes in FERC policies, regional planning standards, and trends in grid technology.
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
• Over 5 years of experience in transmission planning, power system studies, or related fields of electrical engineering.
• Practical experience with PSS/E, PSLF, or similar transmission planning software.
• Proven experience leading or managing technical study projects as the primary contact.
• EIT or PE registration, or actively pursuing licensure.
• Knowledge of regional ISOs/RTOs along with their interconnection processes and planning criteria.
• Experience with IBR and BESS dynamic modeling according to NERC MOD-026/027/031/032/033 standards.
• Understanding of long-term transmission expansion planning and scenario-based planning methodologies.
• Experience conducting large load interconnection studies.
• Proficient in Python for automating power system studies, model management, and data workflows.
• Experience in short circuit analysis using ASPEN, CAPE, or ETAP software.
• Familiarity with electromagnetic transient software like PSCAD or EMTP.
• Strong skills in technical report writing and the ability to convey complex results clearly.
