Senior Transmission Planning Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +11 more states.

📋 Description

• Deliver expert engineering and analytical services to evaluate the performance of electric transmission systems under both steady-state and dynamic conditions.

• Perform studies primarily concentrating on dynamic stability, transient stability, and short circuit analysis, while also addressing various other issues such as economics, harmonics, transient analysis, and power quality.

• Engage in power system modeling and analysis across multiple planning horizons utilizing specialized software.

• Create and assess alternatives for the interconnection or modification of generating units and other resources.

• Offer guidance to clients on the study processes and methodologies employed by ISOs/RTOs and transmission owners.

• Evaluate the reliability and efficiency of both existing and planned power systems, devising solutions to address concerns and ensure compliance with standards.

• Develop and validate models for generating units, inverters, and other resources.

• Supervise and mentor less experienced personnel to assist in their skill development and professional growth.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree focused on power systems engineering, along with equivalent experience gained through in-depth power systems analysis.

• At least 5 years of experience in wide-area power system modeling, analysis, and planning, including power flow/steady state, dynamic stability, transient stability, and short circuit studies for transmission system interconnections.

• Proficiency with power system modeling and analysis tools, particularly with at least one of the following: Siemens PTI PSS®E Steady State Power Flow and Dynamics, PowerGem TARA, PowerWorld, or PSLF.

• Preferred: Familiarity with PSCAD software.

• Knowledgeable about the rules, tariffs, guidelines, and processes of system operators (ISOs/RTOs) in one or more areas related to studies of interconnections and transmission services.
