Senior Transmission Line Engineer – Grid

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design transmission lines within the range of 69kV to 500kV.

• Conduct cost analyses and establish design criteria.

• Manage the routing and siting of transmission lines.

• Perform conductor selection, as well as shielding, grounding, and induction studies.

• Collaborate with vendors and clients to specify necessary transmission line components.

• Lead a small project team.

• Work alongside seasoned engineers and mentor junior staff members.

• Engage with a diverse clientele and various project teams.

• Occasionally travel for site visits and client meetings.

• Create proposals and cost estimates for prospective work.

• Utilize data, automation, artificial intelligence, and other digital tools where applicable to enhance research, analysis, engineering, design, and workflow improvement, applying professional judgment and conducting reviews.

⛳️ Requirements

• No work authorization sponsorship available in Canada.

• May require access to U.S. export-controlled information; candidates must be citizens of a country listed in Appendix A to Part 810 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

• Bachelor's degree from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board-accredited undergraduate program or a U.S.-based ABET-accredited program.

• Proficient in PLS-CADD software for reviewing transmission line models.

• At least 5 years of experience as part of a project team on various transmission assignments.

• Experience in transmission line design that includes code compliance, cost estimation, schedule development and coordination, preparation of transmission line materials and construction specifications, and liaison with construction and installation teams.

• Knowledge of right-of-way requirements, conductor sags/tensions, transmission line plan and profile drawings, and construction documents.

• Familiarity with design methodologies, tools, and principles for technical plans, drawings, and models.

• Experience in drafting and providing support documentation for engineering calculations.

• Knowledge of NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318 standards.

• Proficient in MS Office applications.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong attention to detail.

• P.Eng license or the ability to obtain one within a year is preferred but not mandatory.

• Experience in developing engineering proposals and cost estimates is preferred but not mandatory.

• Scheduling experience is preferred but not mandatory.

• Proficiency with PLS-TOWER, SAG10, LPILE, MFAD, ArcGIS, CDEGS, AutoCAD, or MicroStation is preferred but not mandatory.
