This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• BKF is seeking a Historic Structures Senior Technical Specialist to perform research, evaluations, impact mitigation, and documentation of historic buildings, structures, and landscapes in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), National Environmental Quality Act (NEPA), and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) for various projects across California.
• Key responsibilities encompass conducting archival research to examine background literature and sources, carrying out on-site documentation through surveys and inspections of historic structures, preparing compliance documentation and technical reports, evaluating resources based on standard historic evaluation criteria, and coordinating public engagement efforts with clients and government agencies.
• The role also entails a thorough understanding of cultural resource regulations applicable to federal and local government projects, coordination with complex environmental initiatives, and acting as a technical consultant for stakeholders.
• Candidates must meet the Secretary of the Interior's Guidelines for professional qualifications in architectural history, which includes having a graduate degree in architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or a related field, along with relevant coursework in American architectural history.
• A minimum of ten years of full-time experience in research, writing, or teaching concerning American architectural history or restoration architecture at an academic institution, historical organization or agency, museum, or another professional entity is required; or
• Significant contributions to the body of scholarly knowledge in American architectural history through research and publication are necessary.
• A Master’s degree or Doctorate in architectural history or a related discipline is essential.
• The ideal candidate should be an articulate and persuasive communicator, both in individual settings and when addressing larger audiences.
• A high-energy, passionate, forward-thinking, results-oriented team player who is a resourceful leader is sought.
• Must be collaborative and possess strong skills in building and maintaining effective working relationships across the organization.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with teams and communicate with clients is crucial.
• Capability to manage critical conversations with internal staff, managers, and leaders is required.
• A valid California Class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are mandatory.
• Physical demands include the ability to talk, hear, and operate a computer, keyboard, and mouse regularly, as well as the occasional ability to lift, pull/push, and carry up to 20 pounds, with accommodations as needed.
• Work conditions may involve exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low to moderate level typical of an office environment, as well as a high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented atmosphere. Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be necessary.
• The typical base salary range for this position is between $55.00 and $90.00 per hour, depending on skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This role is hourly and paid biweekly.
