
Senior Technical Consultant, Modern Data Center – Azure, Hyper-V

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Facilitate client discovery, assessment, planning, architecture, and design workshops.
• Design, implement, upgrade, migrate, and optimize Azure Local and Hyper-V environments.
• Develop Azure Local solutions utilizing Azure Arc, Storage Spaces Direct, Network ATC, Failover Clustering, Windows Admin Center, and other related platform services.
• Design and deploy Hyper-V failover clusters, which include Cluster Shared Volumes, live migration, high availability, virtual networking, and workload placement.
• Plan and carry out Azure Local cluster deployments, addressing hardware readiness, operating system configuration, Azure registration, Arc enablement, cluster validation, and operational transition.
• Evaluate site readiness regarding compute, storage, networking, power, cabling, access, Active Directory, DNS, and Group Policy requirements.
• Oversee virtual machine migration and modernization initiatives from VMware and legacy virtualization systems to Hyper-V or Azure Local.
• Utilize Azure Migrate, PowerShell, Windows Admin Center, and inherent Microsoft platform utilities for migrations and lifecycle management.
• Diagnose complex infrastructure challenges across Azure Local, Hyper-V, Windows Server, networking, storage, firmware, and hardware.
• Generate high-level and low-level designs, implementation plans, build guides, testing plans, migration procedures, runbooks, risk registers, and as-built documentation.
• Collaborate with teams specializing in networking, storage, security, cloud, data protection, automation, project management, and vendor relations.
• Convey technical decisions, risks, dependencies, issues, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Assist in technical scoping, estimations, statements of work, proposals, and change requests.
• Deliver knowledge transfer and operational guidance to clients and AHEAD team members.
• Mentor team members and contribute to their career development and skill enhancement.
• Contribute to repeatable delivery methodologies, automation, reference architectures, and best technical practices.
• Adhere to AHEAD delivery methodologies, quality standards, security protocols, and project governance requirements.
• Minimum of five years of experience in designing, implementing, or supporting enterprise compute and virtualization environments.
• Proven hands-on experience with Microsoft Hyper-V and Windows Server.
• Experience in designing, deploying, and troubleshooting Hyper-V failover clusters, Cluster Shared Volumes, live migration, virtual networking, and high-availability workloads.
• Hands-on expertise with Azure Local or Azure Stack HCI, including Azure Arc registration, Storage Spaces Direct, Network ATC, cluster validation, and lifecycle operations.
• Familiarity with Windows Server administration, Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, Windows Failover Clustering, and PowerShell.
• Experience with server hardware, firmware, host configuration, capacity planning, performance analysis, and operational support.
• Ability to methodically troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and drive them to resolution.
• Experience in creating technical documentation and effectively communicating implementation details to clients and delivery teams.
• Capacity to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through clear communication, relationship building, expectation management, and professional follow-through.
• Ability to independently manage technical workstreams while collaborating with project managers, architects, engineers, vendors, and client stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel to client sites as necessary for engagements.
• Preferred: experience in leading multi-site Azure Local deployments or data center modernization projects.
• Preferred: knowledge of VMware vSphere, vCenter, vSAN, VMware Cloud Foundation, or related technologies.
• Preferred: experience with workload migrations to Azure Local; Azure Migrate, Azure Monitor, Azure Policy, Microsoft Defender for Cloud; Azure Arc-enabled services, AKS enabled by Azure Arc, or Kubernetes.
• Preferred: familiarity with Dell, HPE, Lenovo, or other enterprise server and hyperconverged infrastructure platforms.
• Preferred: proficiency in PowerShell, Python, Ansible, Terraform, or similar automation and infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Preferred: knowledge in disaster recovery, backup, replication, workload mobility, or hybrid cloud environments.
• Preferred: Microsoft Azure, Windows Server, or related industry certifications.
• Preferred: experience in consulting, professional services, systems integration, or customer-facing delivery roles.
