This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Establish and uphold the production and software pipeline while meeting deadlines in partnership with the Lead.
• Develop high-quality character, creature, and prop rigging and skinning that aligns with project specifications.
• Execute character rigging in Maya, incorporating setups for cloth, physics, and hair.
• Collaborate closely with modelers and animators to ensure a seamless development pipeline and deliver premium assets.
• Design new riggings.
• Create retargeting systems/tools for converting legacy rigging to updated rigging.
• Share responsibility for pipeline tools and work together with engine and project leads on ongoing tool enhancements.
• Provide technical leadership over team output by producing clean assets or code that adhere to established systems and requirements.
• Lead research and development projects, enhance pipeline and workflow processes, and conduct post-mortems.
• Tackle technically challenging bug-fixing tasks.
• Mentor less experienced colleagues by sharing knowledge.
• Occasionally assist with recruitment initiatives in collaboration with HR.
• Occasionally help with the onboarding process for new employees.
• Over 5 years of experience in Technical Animation or a related field.
• Participation in the production cycle of at least two titles.
• Proficient in Python programming.
• Familiarity with Houdini.
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to provide clear technical feedback on tasks, rigs, toolsets, and documentation.
• Expert-level knowledge of Maya, with a focus on rigging and skinning.
• Deep understanding of anatomy and character movement.
• Familiarity with facial rigs for games, television, or film.
• Strong comprehension of topology requirements for both legacy and new 3D models.
• Experience with physics simulations for cloth, hair, and other physics-based items.
• Awareness of current and emerging technologies and trends in the video game industry.
• Knowledge of Maya art export and production pipelines, particularly related to character and animation features.
• Self-driven and motivated.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities in English.
