Senior Technical Account Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Manage a portfolio of designated strategic clients (typically with an ACV of $500K+), with the option to engage additional high-value Azul Prime customers as opportunities arise.

• Establish and nurture deep, long-lasting relationships with technical stakeholders including SREs, Java developers, platform engineers, and architects.

• Collaborate closely with Sales, Customer Success, and Support teams on joint account strategies, renewals, and growth opportunities.

• Act as the primary technical advisor for Azul Prime within your assigned accounts.

• Lead troubleshooting sessions, root cause analysis, and performance optimization engagements for JVM-based applications deployed at enterprise scale.

• Provide architectural advice on aspects such as reliability, scalability, latency, throughput, and optimization of cloud costs.

• Partner with customers to identify and evaluate candidate applications for Azul Prime, guiding them through successful deployment in production.

• Work together with Azul’s runtime, compiler, GC, and tooling engineering teams to address complex technical challenges.

• Gather structured, actionable customer feedback and channel it into Azul’s product and engineering divisions to influence the roadmap.

• Serve as a senior point of technical escalation for high-severity issues within your accounts.

• Design and conduct customer-facing workshops, training sessions, and technical business reviews.

• Develop and maintain high-quality technical documentation, runbooks, and reusable client-facing materials for Azul Prime.

• Disseminate knowledge internally, mentoring colleagues across the TAM, Sales Engineering, and Support teams.

• Ensure internal systems are up to date with account activities, engagement notes, and customer results.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 12 years of experience in senior technical roles such as software engineering, SRE, performance engineering, or cloud/platform engineering.

• At least 8 years in customer-facing technical positions (TAM, solutions architect, consulting engineer, or SRE with direct customer interaction).

• In-depth knowledge of Java programming and JVM internals, including garbage collection, JIT compilation, class loading, threading, and memory model.

• Proven experience in tuning and troubleshooting enterprise-scale Java applications in production environments.

• Demonstrated capability in performing root cause analysis and applying structured problem-solving methodologies.

• Strong foundational knowledge of Linux, including shell scripting and performance troubleshooting on Linux systems.

• Practical experience with distributed systems, public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, and/or Azure), and containerization technologies (Kubernetes, Docker).

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to audiences ranging from individual engineers to senior executives.

• Based in North America with the ability to travel occasionally to customer sites (typically 10–20%).

• Specialized expertise in JVM performance tuning, GC behavior analysis, and low-latency Java applications.

• Experience with observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic, Dynatrace, JFR, or similar APM solutions).

• Familiarity with microservices architectures and contemporary cloud-native Java deployment patterns.

• Cloud platform certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP) or SRE-related certifications.

• Contributions to open-source Java projects or active involvement in the broader Java technical community.

• Experience using Jira and Confluence for bug tracking and documentation maintenance.

• Prior experience with Azul Prime, OpenJDK, HotSpot, or other commercial Java runtimes.
