Senior Systems Engineer – Production Support

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Identify, isolate, document, promptly report, and resolve system outages or operational issues.

• Gather diagnostic information, restore system functionality, create workarounds, and execute recovery tasks.

• Record issues in logging and discrepancy reporting tools.

• Collaborate directly with the customer on daily operations.

• Address user inquiries regarding hardware and software challenges, rectifying or escalating issues as necessary.

• Update users and senior management on the status of problems.

• Conduct maintenance and installation of computing infrastructure.

• Drive continuous improvement in IT systems or processes.

• Keep track of system asset inventory.

• Ensure adherence to VA standards and security protocols.

• Provide documentation and training resources.

• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Advanced certifications in relevant fields are preferred.

• Minimum of 8 years of experience in systems engineering or a related area, especially in production settings.

• Proficiency with AWS and/or Azure Cloud services, including S3, Step Functions, Batch Jobs, and CloudWatch.

• At least 3 years of experience with SQL query and monitoring.

• Demonstrated success in managing and maintaining large-scale production systems.

• Strong expertise in Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems.

• Experience in system administration, user management, permissions, and system monitoring.

• Proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell programming languages.

• Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or SaltStack.

• Knowledge of cloud-native technologies and infrastructure-as-code tools like CloudFormation.

• Experience with monitoring tools such as DynaTrace, ScienceLogic, and CloudWatch.

• Understanding of network protocols, firewall setups, and VPN configurations.

• Experience using network monitoring and diagnostic tools.

• Familiarity with security best practices, security measures, audits, and industry compliance.

• Working knowledge of AWS RDS SQL Server and Oracle RDBMS/RDS.

• Knowledge of database performance tuning and backup/recovery methods.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.

• Experience with Git, GitHub Actions, AWS CodeBuild, and AWS CodeDeploy.

• Willingness to be on-call for production system support as needed.

• Strong documentation capabilities.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively with development, operations, and security teams.
