Senior Systems Engineer – Production Support

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Identify, isolate, document, report, and resolve system outages or operational issues.

• Gather diagnostic data, restore system functionality, and create workarounds as necessary.

• Record issues in logging and discrepancy reporting tools.

• Collaborate directly with the customer on daily operations.

• Address user inquiries regarding hardware and software challenges.

• Resolve issues or escalate them when necessary.

• Update users and senior management on problem status.

• Conduct maintenance and installation of computing infrastructure.

• Drive continuous improvement through IT systems or processes.

• Maintain a record of system assets.

• Ensure adherence to VA standards and security protocols.

• Provide documentation and training as required.

• Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.

• 8 years of experience in systems engineering or a comparable field, especially in production settings.

• Proficiency with AWS and/or Azure Cloud, including S3, Step Functions, Batch Jobs, and CloudWatch.

• At least 3 years of experience with SQL queries and monitoring.

• Demonstrated ability to manage and sustain large-scale production systems.

• Strong expertise in Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems.

• Experience in system administration, including user management, permissions, and system monitoring.

• Proficient in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

• Familiarity with Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or SaltStack.

• Understanding of cloud-native technologies and infrastructure-as-code tools like CloudFormation.

• Experience with DynaTrace, ScienceLogic, and CloudWatch.

• Capability to troubleshoot and enhance system performance and reliability.

• Knowledge of network protocols, firewall configurations, and VPN setups.

• Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools.

• Familiarity with security best practices for production systems.

• Experience in implementing security measures, conducting audits, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

• Working knowledge of AWS RDS SQL Server and Oracle RDBMS/RDS.

• Insight into database performance tuning and backup/recovery procedures.

• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines.

• Familiarity with Git, GitHub Actions, AWS CodeBuild, and CodeDeploy.

• Willingness to be on-call for production system support as necessary.

• Strong documentation capabilities.

• Ability to manage and contribute to various projects simultaneously.

• Ability to work collaboratively with development, operations, and security teams.
