This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee, manage, and provide support for daily operations of the HPC system.
• Ensure the reliability of the scheduling and system software stack that underpins NOAA’s continuous 24/7 numerical weather prediction efforts.
• Work collaboratively with GDIT HPC engineers, system administrators, developers, and NWS operational personnel.
• Resolve issues and enhance system performance.
• Guarantee the consistent delivery of high-impact forecasting products.
• Enhance system efficiency, scheduler reliability, job throughput, and operational resilience.
• Analyze intricate problems, suggest innovations, and assist in the implementation of technical improvements.
• Utilize Linux system administration, HPC scheduling expertise, scripting languages, performance monitoring tools, and parallel computing technologies.
• Maintain two large-scale supercomputing systems at optimal performance levels.
• Engage in an on-call rotation to support 24/7 operational systems.
• Travel occasionally for team collaboration, training, or customer engagement.
• Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
• Over 8 years of relevant experience.
• US citizenship is mandatory.
• Experience in Linux system administration, preferably with Rocky/SLES.
• Familiarity with HPC batch schedulers such as PBS Pro, Slurm, or similar systems.
• Proficient in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl.
• Knowledge of HPC architectures, distributed computing, and MPI-based workloads.
• Strong troubleshooting abilities in multi-node HPC environments.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation for 24/7 operational systems.
• Capability to work both independently and collaboratively within a distributed technical team.
• Occasional travel required for team collaboration, training, or customer interaction.
