Senior Systems Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Develop and execute platform solutions that align with the organization's goals and non-functional specifications.

• Contribute to reference architectures and assess designs for reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

• Analyze intricate issues, conduct root-cause evaluations, and establish preventative strategies and safeguards.

• Collaborate with developers and clients on solutions for both Windows and Linux environments, encompassing .NET workloads.

• Oversee and enhance source control, CI/CD processes, packaging, and artifact-management tools.

• Design and manage hybrid and multi-cloud solutions across AWS, Azure, GCP, and on-premises settings.

• Engineer robust hybrid connectivity and data service solutions.

• Advise on workload placement considering performance, cost, compliance, and latency factors.

• Implement identity, secrets, and policy frameworks across various clouds and data centers.

• Create reproducible environments utilizing Infrastructure as Code and configuration management techniques.

• Employ and integrate AI-driven tools for scripting, documentation, testing, incident triage, and change planning.

• Define and monitor SLIs/SLOs; establish alerts and dashboards.

• Conduct capacity planning, performance engineering, resilience testing, and disaster recovery simulations.

• Implement security best practices, including least privilege, encryption, patching standards, and policy-as-code.

• Offer tier-3 support and engage in on-call duties.

• Develop reusable infrastructure modules, images, and patterns.

• Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions and Communities of Practice.

• Optimize platform costs and efficiencies.

• Mentor systems engineers and provide technical guidance, code evaluations, design assessments, and onboarding assistance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in workstation or server administration.

• More than 3 years of experience in systems engineering delivering production-grade solutions.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with Confluence/Jira.

• Strong scripting and automation skills in PowerShell and Bash.

• Expertise in at least one of the following: .NET, Python, or Go.

• Knowledgeable in Windows and Linux servers, virtualization, and containerization technologies such as Kubernetes/Docker.

• Familiarity with SAN/LAN, load balancing, and hybrid connectivity methods including VPN, Direct Connect, and ExpressRoute.

• Experience managing AWS and at least one other cloud service, such as Azure or GCP, in addition to on-premises data centers.

• Practical experience with AI-powered tools, emphasizing security and data governance.

• Infrastructure as Code proficiency with Terraform, CloudFormation, or Bicep.

• Experience with CI/CD processes for infrastructure and configuration.

• Familiarity with observability tools, including logs, metrics, and traces.

• Understanding of reliability concepts such as SLOs and error budgets.

• Knowledge of code development practices or equivalent experience in enterprise application integration.

• Experience in maintaining production infrastructure in hybrid cloud and on-premises environments.

• Strong understanding of networking, identity, access, and connectivity principles.

• Proven automation mindset with the capability to enhance repetitive processes.

• Ability to implement security, access control, change management, documentation, validation, and operational readiness practices.
