Senior Systems Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Ensure the uptime, performance, and capacity of production servers and services.

• Conduct ticket and alert triage, system monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance analysis.

• Oversee system configuration and infrastructure, encompassing Linux administration, configuration management, server hardware, virtualization platforms, storage architectures, DNS, LDAP, Kerberos, centralized logging, and containerized systems.

• Execute patching, migrations, upgrades, and change management processes.

• Support version control and infrastructure tools, such as Git, BitBucket, Ansible, Elasticsearch/ELK, and the HashiCorp suite.

• Create and sustain system automation, scripting, and CI/CD build pipelines utilizing Python or BASH.

• Engage in infrastructure monitoring, metrics collection, and capacity planning across production environments.

• Partake in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

• Manage multiple priorities both independently and collaboratively.

• Deliver internal client and customer service.

• Document technical information effectively.

• Communicate with staff at all levels and ensure project follow-through.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in UNIX/Linux administration.

• Proficient in Linux system administration, particularly with Debian and Red Hat.

• Experience in troubleshooting Linux subsystems and internals.

• Capability to develop scripts using Python or BASH.

• Significant experience with Ansible for configuration management.

• Experience in specifying and selecting server hardware platforms based on application needs.

• Familiarity with virtualization hypervisors, including OpenShift KubeVirt, KVM, Nutanix, and VMware.

• Experience with monitoring and metrics tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and SysStat.

• Ability to triage tickets and issues even with limited information.

• Familiarity with change management and version control systems, including Git and BitBucket.

• Experience in developing CI/CD build pipelines.

• Knowledge of LDAP and Kerberos administration.

• Familiarity with centralized logging using Elasticsearch/ELK.

• Experience with DNS zone files and DNS administration.

• Knowledge of SAN, NAS, Ceph, and ZFS storage architectures.

• Experience in managing containerized systems, including Docker, Nomad, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.

• Familiarity with HashiCorp products, including Consul, Nomad, and Vault.

• Knowledge of AWS and GCP cloud environments.

• Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation is mandatory.

• A BA/BS or higher degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred.
