Senior System Engineer – Platform & Security

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the Linux server environment across both the on-premise Proxmox/ZFS cluster and AWS.

• Manage and enhance network security, including firewalls, VPNs, access controls, certificates, hardening measures, and the connection to our largest partner.

• Automate infrastructure using Ansible, ensuring it is version-controlled, reproducible, and thoroughly documented.

• Oversee the Docker, Nomad, and Traefik container platforms.

• Manage GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines to enable teams to deploy rapidly and securely.

• Handle MySQL administration in production, focusing on backups, performance optimization, and recovery processes.

• Expand monitoring, logging, and alerting capabilities with Grafana and New Relic.

• Lead incidents through to root cause analysis.

• Serve as a collaborative partner for Engineering, Data, and Product teams.

• Articulate infrastructure design choices and assist in the development of colleagues.

⛳️ Requirements

• Several years of experience managing Linux server environments, especially Debian/Ubuntu.

• Strong knowledge of networking concepts: TCP/IP, routing, DNS, load balancing, as well as firewall and VPN administration.

• Demonstrated expertise in infrastructure security practices, including hardening, access control, and adherence to security best practices.

• Hands-on experience with Ansible in a production setting.

• Familiarity with container orchestration technologies such as Nomad, Kubernetes, or similar platforms.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines.

• Knowledge of AWS or a similar public cloud service.

• Production-level MySQL administration capability.

• Proficiency in Bash and Python for scripting and tooling.

• Expertise in monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting.

• Fluent in English.

• Proficiency in German is a plus, though not mandatory.

• Familiarity with Terraform, RabbitMQ, Redis, and Zero Trust concepts is advantageous.
