This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +4 more states.
• Oversee the engineering design and technical implementation of Protection and Control (P&C) systems for substations, typically ranging from 4kV to 500kV.
• Create and evaluate protection schemes for lines, buses, transformers, and feeders.
• Design one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Collaborate with project managers, clients, and internal teams to ensure the achievement of project milestones.
• Assist in project lifecycle activities from initial concept through to commissioning.
• Execute equipment selection and specification for relays, current transformers/ potential transformers (CTs/PTs), breakers, and SCADA integration.
• Perform peer reviews and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), ensuring adherence to NERC, IEEE, NEC, and client standards.
• Offer technical support during the construction and commissioning phases, including troubleshooting assistance.
• Guide junior engineers and engage in initiatives aimed at continuous improvement.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in substation engineering, particularly in P&C.
• Practical experience with relay protection schemes from manufacturers such as SEL, GE, Siemens, and ABB.
• Familiarity with substation design packages, including drawings and specifications.
• Strong foundational knowledge of power system principles.
• Experience collaborating with utilities, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firms, or consulting engineering companies.
• Knowledge of NERC/PRC standards and IEEE guidelines.
• Experience managing designs through interdisciplinary reviews.
• Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license or the capability to obtain one.
• Proficiency with software tools such as AutoCAD or MicroStation, and Bluebeam.
• Experience leading project designs for both greenfield and brownfield projects.
