Senior Substation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop conceptual designs and implementation plans.

• Prepare engineering/project cost estimates and timelines.

• Conduct and record quality reviews for fellow engineers and designers.

• Create construction drawings, documents, calculations, and studies for medium and high voltage substation projects.

• Oversee the technical delivery of power delivery engineering projects or tasks.

• Generate calculations, studies, and reports for substation and power systems projects that comply with internal and client standards and requirements.

• Utilize engineering design principles and practices, including relevant formulas.

• Collaborate and coordinate with small multi-discipline project teams (Civil, Structural, Physical, P&C, Transmission Line) to execute substation projects.

• Accountable for providing weekly updates to senior team leaders regarding milestone progress, estimated completion dates, including the percentage completion of activities and supporting data to track project advancement.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in the Substation/Power Delivery sector.

• Familiarity with high voltage substation design (12kV to 500kV), including the preparation of one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, panel layouts, AC/DC schematics and wiring diagrams, physical layouts, electrical elevations, plans (equipment, grounding, and raceway), and bills of materials including the selection of non-standard equipment.

• Ability to interpret and apply standards such as IEEE, IEC, NESC, and client-specific standards.

• Strong preference for candidates with exceptional written and verbal communication skills, robust analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent organizational skills, and proactive, forward-thinking attitudes.

• Experience with power system calculations (AC station service, DC battery sizing, and Voltage Drop/Cable Selection) is advantageous.

• Experience with relay settings is a plus.

• Familiarity with substation physical equipment is beneficial.

• Knowledge of Protection and Controls design is essential.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

• A PE license is required.
