Senior Staff Software Engineer, JavaScript Runtime – Compilers

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Design and enhance execution engines, JIT/AOT compilation pipelines, and memory management systems.

• Ensure that customer applications operate effectively at scale.

• Create high-quality, clean, scalable, and reusable code.

• Uphold software engineering architecture and process best practices, which include code reviews and unit testing.

• Collaborate with product owners to gain a comprehensive understanding of detailed requirements.

• Take ownership of code throughout the design, implementation, test automation, and delivery phases of high-quality products.

• Develop user-friendly software that allows customers to extend and customize functionalities.

• Guide colleagues and encourage knowledge-sharing across teams in areas such as low-level systems engineering, performance profiling, and optimization techniques.

• Develop and maintain the server-side JavaScript engine that supports the ServiceNow platform's custom applications, workflows, and business logic.

• Ensure that applications transition smoothly and securely from development to production.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 12 years of experience with Java or a similar object-oriented programming language.

• At least 5 years of experience working on compilers, runtimes, JIT/AOT systems, or language execution engines.

• Proven experience in integrating AI into software development, workflows, decision-making, or automation through AI-powered tools and technologies.

• Extensive experience with compiler/runtime systems, including execution engines, memory management, concurrency, JIT/AOT compilation, performance optimization, profiling, and debugging.

• Advanced understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, design patterns, and considerations for systems-level performance and scalability.

• A strong passion for JavaScript and web platforms.

• Familiarity with modern UI frameworks such as Angular, React, or Vue.

• Experience in developing, troubleshooting, and optimizing relational databases.

• Experience with LLVM, language runtime development, or low-level systems engineering is considered a strong advantage.

• Proven track record of working across various technology stacks, including Cloud Dev, Platforms, Web Dev, Frameworks, and service-oriented architecture.

• Ability to manage multiple projects with significant technical risk across teams and processes; may act as a functional lead or technical owner.
