Senior Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop scalable, reliable, and resilient production applications using Java and Kotlin.

• Proactively prevent, investigate, triage, and resolve production issues and on-call incidents.

• Design system architecture, influence the product roadmap, and take ownership of new projects.

• Facilitate architecture discussions, code reviews, design reviews, sprint planning, and project planning.

• Engage in the complete application lifecycle, including coding and debugging.

• Construct data pipelines that transform incoming data into Kafka streams and Key Life Indicators.

• Identify system bottlenecks and enhance performance, including tuning Kafka.

• Integrate with MANTL APIs to facilitate data collection.

• Lead development teams and collaborate with designers and product owners on new features.

• Develop and extend Vue.js frontend features as necessary.

• Oversee technologies used to modernize legacy applications.

• Gather and address technical and design requirements effectively.

• Configure environments, monitor system health, and support observability with Prometheus and Grafana.

• Provide training and support for internal teams.

• Mentor team members, delegate tasks, and serve as the Technical Team Lead.

• Introduce and enhance automation and service operability tools.

• Interface with customers and business stakeholders to deliver software products.

• Establish engineering organization standards.

• Drive AI-assisted engineering strategies, optimize developer workflows, and lead modernization initiatives and prompt/context engineering standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 12 years of relevant software development experience, or 8 years with an advanced degree.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Exceptional programming abilities in Java or Kotlin.

• Experience in backend-focused full-stack development.

• Strong background with Spring Boot, Hibernate, and RESTful APIs.

• Proficient in Kafka fundamentals, streaming, and performance tuning.

• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

• Comprehensive understanding of the software development lifecycle.

• Advanced expertise in AWS and Kubernetes for cloud-native infrastructure.

• Experience with microservices architecture and API-first development approaches.

• Advanced knowledge in OpenTelemetry.

• Intermediate skills in SQL/database querying.

• Experience planning and leading complex technical projects across multiple teams.

• Capability to participate in an on-call rotation for one week per month.

• Must be able to work full-time in the US; employer cannot provide sponsorship.

• Ability to lift 5–10 pounds unassisted and perform necessary physical tasks.

• Preferred: Experience with Maven, Vue.js, AWS deployment, and a master’s degree.
