This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take charge of the architecture for Workiva’s AI platform and its core AI services.
• Influence how machine learning, Generative AI, and agentic systems are incorporated throughout products.
• Spearhead the transition from early adoption to robust, enterprise-ready production systems.
• Establish standards for model serving, retrieval, evaluation, governance, and the reliability of the platform.
• Direct the design of enterprise agentic systems, encompassing orchestration, workflow execution, memory, and multi-agent coordination.
• Develop and enhance Retrieval-Augmented Generation capabilities for enterprise content and knowledge workflows.
• Set up evaluation methods and quality frameworks for Generative AI applications.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies and formulate an adoption strategy for Workiva’s platform.
• Shape the technical direction across teams, products, and platform domains.
• Mentor Staff and Senior Engineers, elevating the technical standards across the organization.
• Collaborate closely with leaders in Product, Security, Infrastructure, and Architecture.
• Align teams around a common vision for scalable, secure AI at Workiva.
• Oversee the secure design of the AI platform, including aspects like authorization, runtime isolation, governance, auditability, and compliance.
• Establish best practices for AI safety, model governance, and the protection of customer data.
• Ensure that AI systems fulfill enterprise requirements for availability, resiliency, observability, and operational support.
• Design for fault tolerance and operational excellence in environments that are regulated and security-sensitive.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Over 10 years of software engineering experience, particularly with large-scale SaaS platforms.
• More than 5 years of experience in designing, deploying, and operating production ML, AI, or data-intensive systems.
• Proficiency in designing and managing enterprise AI platforms, including model serving, evaluation, observability, and governance.
• In-depth knowledge of RAG, agentic systems, and extensive knowledge systems.
• Solid understanding of foundation model ecosystems, including inference, routing, prompting, and provider trade-offs.
• Experience with AI evaluation, secure AI systems, and working within regulated enterprise environments.
• A proven history of leading architecture initiatives across multiple teams or platform domains.
• Strong experience in distributed systems, cloud-native environments, API development, reliability, and operational excellence.
• Expert-level proficiency in Python and familiarity with at least one production language such as Java, Go, Scala, or C++.
• Demonstrated success in mentoring senior engineers and technical leaders.
