This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Conduct research, develop, and implement state-of-the-art machine learning solutions for image analysis, processing, object detection, and segmentation.
• Assess technical challenges and identify the most effective machine learning strategies, whether by creating custom models or adapting cutting-edge solutions.
• Investigate emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance product capabilities continuously.
• Design, develop, and sustain robust software solutions utilizing contemporary software engineering practices.
• Integrate machine learning algorithms into high-performance desktop applications.
• Contribute to the overall C++ application architecture and codebase.
• Engage in code reviews and promote development best practices.
• Profile and optimize model execution for CPU and GPU acceleration.
• Ensure efficient processing of large-scale 3D and 4D imaging datasets.
• Create scalable and maintainable solutions fit for production environments.
• Offer technical guidance, mentoring, and support to fellow software engineers and testing team members.
• Participate in technical investigations and architectural decision-making.
• Share expertise and advocate for engineering excellence throughout the team.
• Collaborate closely with software engineers, scientists, product managers, and domain experts.
• Support product development from initial concept to deployment.
• Occasionally travel to other Oxford Instruments locations and customer sites as needed.
• Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Extensive experience in software engineering, machine learning development, or advanced applied research at a senior level.
• Demonstrated success in delivering machine learning projects from conception to production deployment.
• Strong foundation in software development with an emphasis on object-oriented design principles.
• Experience in researching, evaluating, and implementing machine learning solutions for practical business or scientific applications.
• Significant hands-on programming experience.
• Profound understanding of machine learning theory, mathematics, and image processing principles.
• Strong knowledge of contemporary deep learning architectures, including CNNs, U-Net, and related computer vision frameworks.
• Production-level experience with PyTorch and/or TensorFlow.
• In-depth understanding of Python's scientific and machine learning ecosystems.
• Expertise in object-oriented software design and development.
• Capability to independently research and implement innovative solutions for complex technical challenges.
