Senior Staff Engineer – Applied AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and expand AI/ML-driven patient experiences for matching, ranking, recommendations, onboarding, and personalization.

• Enhance and refine production models and AI-powered systems.

• Create essential reusable capabilities for Patient Engineering.

• Collaborate with Rula’s ML team on shared infrastructure, models, standards, and architectural decisions.

• Identify and address high-impact Applied AI challenges across models, reusable capabilities, and existing systems.

• Assess whether challenges are best tackled with custom ML, foundation models/AI services, deterministic software, or hybrid strategies.

• Empower Patient Engineering to provide superior intelligent experiences.

• Establish a robust technical partnership with the ML team.

• Enhance models, reusable capabilities, and the efficiency and quality of AI/ML-powered patient experience delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in software and/or ML engineering.

• Extensive experience in designing, building, deploying, and managing production ML systems that demonstrate measurable product or business impact.

• Proficient in Python.

• Experience in developing scalable systems and producing and reviewing production-quality code.

• In-depth hands-on ML expertise in problem formulation, data/feature engineering, model development and training, evaluation, experimentation, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing improvement.

• Technical leadership across teams, including establishing technical direction, influencing architecture, mentoring senior engineers, and making informed decisions on ML and AI approaches.

• Proven experience in building shared ML infrastructure or reusable capabilities adopted across teams from 0 to 1.

• Extensive experience with recommendation, ranking, relevance, personalization, search, or matching systems.

• Thorough evaluation linking offline model performance to online experiments and product/business outcomes.

• Practical experience in building and managing modern foundation model/GenAI systems in production.

• Familiarity with evaluation, reliability, latency, cost, privacy/safety, and operational tradeoffs for GenAI systems.

• Preferred: experience in advancing organizations toward mature ML engineering practices.

• Preferred: experience in operating ML systems in healthcare, financial services, or other regulated/high-trust environments.
