Senior Specialist, Payroll, Reporting & Systems SME

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.

📋 Description

• Serve as a subject matter expert by delivering technical, analytical, accounting, taxation, and reporting assistance to the Payroll function for Novo Nordisk Inc. and affiliated entities.

• Manage payroll-related accounting, taxation, budgeting, and reconciliation activities to guarantee compliance with company policies, GAAP, and federal, state, local (and, where applicable, international) regulations.

• Facilitate the complete payroll preparation and processing cycle, including tax reporting, payroll systems maintenance and controls, as well as resolving intricate payroll issues.

• Accurately and punctually process biweekly and off-cycle payrolls, incorporating complex adjustments, disability-related payments, and vendor file integrations.

• Ensure payroll compliance with company policies, SOX controls, and relevant regulations.

• Oversee payroll tax, accounting, and general ledger functions, including reconciliations, journal entries, cash activity, and budget management.

• Develop dashboards, reports, and analyses to promote financial accuracy, operational decision-making, audits, and regulatory compliance.

• Collaborate with HR, Finance, Benefits, vendors, and business leaders to address complex issues, enhance processes, and advance payroll initiatives and special projects.

• Supervise the upkeep of payroll files and records, ensuring legal record retention and coordinating with storage/archiving vendors as necessary.

• Assist in year-end and quarter-end processes, ensuring timely and accurate submission of required reports.

• Manage formal internal and external audits; support inquiries related to regulatory and compliance issues.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or a related field is required.

• Relevant experience and/or certification in Payroll may be considered in lieu of a degree when suitable.

• A minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible payroll experience is required.

• Accounting, payroll, and tax experience is preferred for positions with payroll accounting and taxation duties (typically 8+ years).

• Payroll Org Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is highly preferred.

• Advanced proficiency in Excel is mandatory.

• Familiarity with payroll systems and integrations (e.g., ADP platforms and HR/Finance system interfaces) is necessary.

• Understanding of applicable laws and regulations affecting payroll and taxation (e.g., FLSA, ERISA, and Federal/State/Local tax laws) is essential.

• Proven ability to manage complex assignments and multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

• Strong planning and organizational skills with the capability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.

• Excellent customer orientation, attention to detail, and problem analysis/resolution capabilities.

• Effective interpersonal and communication skills; a collaborative team player.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision under general direction.
