Senior Software Security Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Oversee the essential abuse prevention systems and develop new detection rules aimed at identifying and averting evolving platform abuses such as spam, AI/token misuse, SEO manipulation/redirects, and other financially motivated abuse campaigns.

• Act as a primary maintainer for our proprietary abuse platform (a Ruby on Rails monolith), while also being adept at supporting and enhancing features for the platform.

• Enhance and broaden agentic AI functionalities within our abuse mitigation tools, focusing on improving multi-agent reasoning decision patterns to minimize human-in-the-loop operational burdens.

• Spearhead collaboration with peer engineering teams to implement safety enhancements for the GitLab product.

• Address automation deficiencies and establish efficient, automated workflows.

• Develop and maintain documentation, including runbooks and procedures.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient software development skills, particularly with Ruby/Rails.

• Preferred experience in working with distributed applications that have large codebases and are deployed in cloud environments.

• A strong passion and desire to proactively cultivate security engineering skills.

• Comfortable in an entirely remote setting where results and impact are prioritized over hours worked.

• Significant experience in cloud-native development, specifically with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and/or AWS.

• An interest in "thinking like a hacker" and defending against attacks with an "automation first" approach.

• A willingness to manage trust and safety security incidents while collaborating with engineering to strengthen platform defenses against abuse campaigns.

• Experience on an AI-native development team, maintaining teams of agents, acting as a code reviewer, and often abstracting your role away from writing code in most situations.
