Senior Software Engineer – Vector Search, Elasticsearch

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Norway.

📋 Description

• Spearhead initiatives within Elasticsearch to deliver a top-tier search engine solution characterized by speed and relevance.

• Develop new search functionalities and address bugs while enhancing code clarity.

• Create or apply algorithms and data structures, collaborating closely with operating systems and hardware as necessary.

• Work alongside a globally distributed team dedicated to advancing Elasticsearch vector-search capabilities.

• Propel enhancements in the relevance of Elasticsearch searches.

• Engage with global community members on issues and pull requests, encompassing triage, handoffs, and resolutions.

• Write idiomatic, modern Java code.

⛳️ Requirements

• Developed innovative techniques in vector similarity on a search platform with a significant user base or advanced academic research in vector similarity information retrieval.

• Professional background in search or vector databases.

• Proficient in utilizing HNSW, IVF, or other pertinent algorithms and libraries on large-scale search platforms.

• Strong skills in core Java, including standard-library data structures, concurrency constructs, and lambda expressions.

• Capability to manage projects from inception to completion, encompassing technical design and component development.

• Experience in collaborating on code, methodologies, and APIs, including internet-based or asynchronous teamwork.

• Familiarity with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.

• Demonstrated success in leveraging AI to speed up development, troubleshoot complex systems, and optimize code while maintaining accountability for outcomes.

• Ability to collaborate across functions and teams, transitioning seamlessly between projects, codebases, or teams.

• Capacity to work independently and drive decisions and results within a distributed team.

• Experience with Elasticsearch, open-source projects, source-control workflows, continuous integration, data storage technologies, or cross-functional initiatives is advantageous.
