Senior Software Engineer, Optimizer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain fundamental optimization technologies, full-stack systems, and data-driven systems supporting school scheduling.

• Lead challenging technical projects spanning optimization, full-stack, and data-related areas.

• Operationalize the optimization product to ensure scalability and usability.

• Participate in on-call support as necessary.

• Establish testing protocols and observability measures.

• Conduct data-driven experiments to guide critical technology decisions.

• Collaborate with product teams to enhance the optimizer’s core algorithm, model-builders, and full-stack job orchestration framework.

• Research, recommend, and implement enhancements utilizing generative AI and machine learning.

• Lead significant projects and initiatives while assisting the product squad in achieving objectives.

• Identify and clarify new opportunities.

• Provide technical leadership in key areas of the optimization stack and the broader engineering team.

• Troubleshoot customer issues and deliver timely solutions.

• Mentor and support junior engineers.

• Foster continuous improvement and collaboration.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 4 years of development experience.

• Proven track record of delivering value to customers while contributing across the entire stack.

• Previous success in driving software delivery on complex and demanding technology projects.

• In-depth knowledge of linear optimization modeling and solvers, application stacks heavily reliant on machine learning, product and infrastructure stacks utilizing generative AI, or backend API and asynchronous task development.

• Capability to learn and contribute to frontend engineering, cloud infrastructure, and data engineering as required.

• Demonstrated ability to deeply analyze complex product requirements and challenging technical domains.

• Proficient in developing and maintaining scalable web applications.

• Experience in implementing unit and integration tests.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional settings.

• Commitment to ongoing improvement through code reviews, pairing, and collaborative problem-solving.

• Experience and comfort working in a fast-paced startup environment.

• Prior experience in EdTech is advantageous but not mandatory.

• Preference for candidates located in New York or Boston.

• Ability to determine if work authorization sponsorship in the United States will be necessary.
