📋 Description

• Shape the overall architecture of Alpaca's market data systems.

• Develop highly scalable, mission-critical solutions.

• Focus on achieving extremely low latency.

• Implement backend services and guide architecture in areas where scalability and resilience are crucial.

• Uphold software quality and ensure adequate test coverage.

• Engage in code reviews.

• Diagnose incidents and address reported bugs.

• May participate in on-call support for urgent engineering initiatives.

• Construct and expand systems and services that form the foundation of Alpaca's brokerage infrastructure.

• Enhance architecture and developer-centric APIs for stocks, options, crypto, and foreign exchange market data, including streaming and historical endpoints.

• Strategize, innovate, experiment, and deploy new services and libraries into production.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of experience working on large-scale systems.

• Proficient in at least one compiled imperative language (e.g., Go, C, C++, Rust, etc.); the majority of critical services are developed in Go.

• Skills in SQL or relational databases.

• Familiarity with TCP/IP and UDP networking protocols.

• Competent in Linux/BSD environments and shell scripting.

• Demonstrated experience in architecting and leading medium-scale projects involving multiple teams.

• Familiarity with Kubernetes or other workload orchestration and scheduling systems; primarily using Kubernetes via GKE.

• Experience with leading cloud platforms; primarily GCP.

• A strong interest in financial markets.

• Enthusiastic about the innovations being developed at Alpaca.

• Nice-to-haves include: market data, microservice architectures, clean coding practices, DevOps, cloud networking (BGP, VPC peering), low-latency applications, distributed key-value stores, CI/CD, Agile/Scrum methodologies, observability, tracing, continuous profiling, capacity planning, and benchmarking.
