This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.
• Take ownership of delivering secure, resilient, and performance-oriented mainframe solutions throughout the entire lifecycle, from analysis and design to implementation, validation, and production support.
• Transform business and technical requirements into application modifications that enhance batch, online, interface, and data-processing functionalities.
• Diagnose and resolve issues related to applications, transactions, batches, interfaces, data flows, restart/recovery processes, and downstream impacts.
• Create technical specifications, implementation and backout strategies, support documentation, and delivery timelines.
• Carry out SDLC tasks, including requirements analysis, estimation, design, coding, testing, documentation, change control, and readiness for release.
• Implement GitLab and DevOps methodologies for source control, branching, merge requests, peer reviews, traceability, CI/CD, deployment planning, and validation of implementations.
• Develop and conduct unit, integration, regression, batch validation, data reconciliation, UAT support, production verification, and defect resolution tasks.
• Assist in modernization efforts that include API enablement, data integration, reduction of technical debt, platform resilience, and contemporary IBM z development practices.
• Contribute to integration designs that span mainframe, distributed platforms, cloud-connected applications, MQ, APIs, and data movement strategies.
• Provide support for production applications, batch schedules, online transactions, interfaces, operational workflows, incident resolution, root cause analysis, and problem management.
• Collaborate with business, product, architecture, QA, operations, and engineering teams.
• Mentor less experienced engineers on application functionalities, coding practices, debugging, testing, release procedures, and adherence to the SDLC.
• Organize small to medium-sized technical projects and escalate technical risks, delivery challenges, design discrepancies, control issues, and operational impacts as needed.
• An Associate’s degree along with a minimum of 5 years of systems analysis and/or application development experience; or, alternatively, a combined total of 7 years of higher education and/or work experience that includes at least 5 years in systems analysis and/or application development.
• Experience in IBM z/OS mainframe application development utilizing COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2 for z/OS, VSAM, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, Easytrieve+, and other relevant tools.
• A solid technical foundation in batch and online processing, job stream analysis, restartability, scheduling dependencies, ABEND resolution, CICS transaction troubleshooting, and production impact evaluation.
• Proficiency in DB2 SQL, data validation, reconciliation, copybooks/file layouts, interface analysis, and performance-driven troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with modern IBM z development practices and tools, including IDz, ADDI, DBB, ZUnit, z/OS Connect, ZDIH, as well as mainframe debugging tools such as File-AID, Abend-AID, Xpediter, InterTest, or their equivalents.
• Experience with GitLab, source control, code reviews, release management, change control, CI/CD, traceability, and readiness for deployment.
• Background in SDLC and Agile methodologies, encompassing requirements analysis, story refinement, estimation, design, coding, unit testing, regression support, implementation, production verification, and documentation.
• Familiarity with Jira, Zephyr, and ServiceNow.
• Strong analytical, debugging, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration abilities.
• Capability to work independently, evaluate impacts across programs, interfaces, data flows, batch processes, and interconnected applications, and escalate risks when necessary.
• Preferred: Experience in supporting banking, lending, payments, servicing, or other regulated enterprise applications.
• Preferred: Experience with modernization, platform migration, API enablement, z/OS Connect, MQ/service integration, distributed platform connectivity, technical debt reduction, resiliency, or initiatives related to release quality.
• Preferred: Experience with Sonar or similar code-quality/static-analysis tools, automated testing, regression automation, deployment validation, observability, monitoring, and operational dashboards.
• Preferred: Knowledge of RACF or mainframe security principles, disaster recovery, recovery validation, audit evidence, and regulatory/internal control expectations.
