Senior Software Engineer – Machine Learning

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the machine learning systems that enhance product discovery for merchants.

• Develop, construct, deploy, and manage models and their serving services from start to finish.

• Create, train, and launch recommendation and ranking models, including session-based embeddings, collaborative filtering, as well as content and visual embeddings.

• Build and maintain low-latency Python services that deliver the models.

• Execute batch pipelines that refresh model artifacts on a daily basis for hundreds of merchants.

• Design and evaluate A/B tests, making shipping decisions grounded in data.

• Manage deployments, encompassing containers, Kubernetes manifests, autoscaling, dashboards, and alerts.

• Enhance the shopping assistant and LLM-assisted catalog enrichment with appropriate evaluation.

• Optimize live storefront recommendation re-ranking within a 200 ms constraint, gauged by merchant conversion rates.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in building machine learning systems, with a minimum of 3 years serving models in live production environments.

• Proficient in Python; experience with FastAPI or a similar framework is desirable.

• Familiar with vector databases, particularly Qdrant.

• Knowledge of ANN libraries such as FAISS, Annoy, ScaNN, or HNSWlib.

• Practical experience with recommender systems or search ranking, including implicit feedback, embeddings, and approximate nearest neighbor search.

• Strong SQL skills for analytical stores; experience with ClickHouse is advantageous.

• Comfortable using Docker and Kubernetes, and ready to take responsibility for the deployment of your projects.

• Experience in conducting A/B tests and reporting the outcomes.

• Familiarity with streaming systems like Pulsar, Kafka, or Flink.

• Bonus: Experience with PyTorch, sentence-transformers, CLIP, or applying computer vision to product images.

• Bonus: Knowledge of gradient boosting for ranking using XGBoost, LightGBM, or CatBoost.

• Bonus: Proficiency in Scikit-learn and SciPy for lightweight classifiers and statistical analysis of experiments.

• Bonus: Experience with LLM applications involving evaluation harnesses, tool calling, and cost and latency optimization.
